-GENDER EQUALITY
In Nigeria, the statistics of women participation in Vocational and Technical Skill Acquisition is lower than their male counterparts.
Recent studies show that access to VTSA is 36% for women and 64% for men.
Women are major targets of banditry, kidnapping and other terrorist activities particularly in Northern Nigeria. Over 2.1 million women have been displaced from their communities resulting in disruption in education and economic activities.
Other factors such as the economy, societal and cultural beliefs further create barriers for women in Nigeria. Families often prioritize the education of the male child over the female child, further reducing opportunities for girls, and in the long run keeping women in the background with little or no opportunities to measure up.
At Olive Plow and Dove Foundation , we believe in equitable support for women to access available resources and be empowered with education and vocational skills .
-COMMUNITY
By January 2026, over 3.1 to 3.7 million people have been internally displaced in Nigeria due to conflict and banditry. Women and children constitute approximately 80% of that population.
Women are vulnerable due to violence, livelihood loss, and high rates of female-headed households.
The majority of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) are women from Northern Nigeria, women fleeing conflicts, banditry and terror attacks. Unfortunately, this community of women are even more vulnerable to:
Security and Violence: Displaced women and girls face high risks of sexual violence, harassment, and abduction.
Survival Sex and Exploitation: Due to extreme food insecurity and lack of aid, many women and girls are compelled to engage in survival sex to secure food.
Deplorable Living Conditions: Displaced women and girls lack adequate shelter, clean water, healthcare, and educational facilities.
Livelihood Loss: Displaced women and girls suffer from loss of identity, livelihood, and social exclusion, leading to deep dependency on humanitarian support.
We are creating a deep-rooted connection with this community of women from the target regions and providing them with opportunities to learn vocational and technical skills so they can be independent to the best of their ability and be able to take care of their families.
-IMPACT
Our goal is to provide Training and Vocational Skills to 1,000 displaced women in Nigeria by 2030. We are working with our stakeholders to build a community of skilled, self-reliant and financially stable women. We are matching promises and actions with visible outcome by impacting the lives of the women we have identified as our core target audience:
Women aged 18 to 38
Women fleeing conflict affected areas
Women from low-income background.
-SUSTAINABILITY
We want to impact our community long term. We have chosen to walk a long journey with our stakeholders. Beyond providing opportunities for training and vocational skills acquisition, we are following up with our mentorship program and providing our beneficiaries with the long-term support they need to navigate their entrepreneurship challenges
